How thick should MMF be to cover a cake (1/4in, 1/8in, etc)?

The directions on this site say to roll it to 1/16 of an inch to cover your cake. There is a good article on this site on how to make and use MMF.

You want your fondant to be 1/4th of an inch think. Some will roll it thinner, but I do not think you could roll it 1/16th of and move it onto your cake.

If you are using fondant as cut outs or accents to your cake, then you would roll it about 1/8th of an inch.

You usually roll it 1/16th of an inch (the thickness of a dime) or less when you are making flowers.

I usually roll my MMF about 1/16" thick or thinner. I like the looks of it, but it gets better reviews the thinner it is. I roll it out on a mat large enough then pick my mat up. Turn it over top of my cake then gradually lift the mat off of the MMF. So I don't have to handle the MMF that thin, the mat does it for me.
