is there anything that can be done to save MMF when it starts getting crumbly from being out during use? Is this normal by the way. Its my 1st time making & working with fondant. After working with the mmf for a few mins it started to crumble and i'm not sure if i did something wrong, i did notice that it was the pieces that i colored so i'm not sure if the color has anything to do with it or maybe it was just out too long. I did put it in plastic wrap when i was not using it.

Put it in the microwave for a few seconds at a time until it is soft again, then put some crisco on your hands and knead it. It should be okay -- and be careful when you take it out of the microwave, it will be hot.

Hmmm, it has always worked for me. I guess you can always make another batch of MMF or buy a small box of the Wilton fondant if it's just for a bow. Sorry couldn't be of much help. Sorry to hear about you getting burned icon_sad.gif

Try adding a little more water. It sounds like it's too dry. Be careful with the water though so that it doesn't get too moist.

That happened to me over the weekend. It was some purple-colored fondant that I'd made 3 weeks ago. I don't have a microwave. So I got my hands wet and kneaded the stuff in my hands for a while, basically just adding water to it. It turned into a goopy mess for a while, and a bunch of chunks fell off in the process, but then I kneaded it on some cornstarch to get the stickiness off, then added a fair amount of Crisco to it and kept kneading. (After washing my hands to get the sticky goo off first, then again to get the cornstarch off.)

I really think the Crisco helps return the elasticity to it. First the moisture, then the Crisco, and just knead the heck out of it. Worked for me, anyway.

Use plenty of Crisco when handling!! Usually I don't have to add any water or warm it back up as long as I use plenty of Crisco. I don't ever add any water to mine, although I do add 1 T of vanilla or almond extract to my marshmallows.

If you added too much icing sugar that will do it too. You don't need to add all the icing sugar that it says in the recipie. I only add enough till it isn't sticky anymore. If you added too much icing sugar you could try mixing in some more melted marshmellows or lots and lots of crisco.

Ok i'm still pretty down about the whole thing but i'll try a couple of the things you guys suggested. I was using alot of cornstarch so maybe thats what dried it out.

cashley i didnt add all the PS the recipe called for. it worked great in the beginning but after working with it for a while and all the cornstarch it started to crumble.

I tried using alot of crisco to a point where it was so wet but i'll try a bit of water and see what happens.

ChrisJ its ok, your idea was worth a shot not sure why it didnt work for me. My burnt finger is still hurting but lesson learned. I do have some that i havent worked with yet but i already had that batch colored perfectly so was trying to save time. If all else fails i will use from the untouched batch and just color it again.

Thanks everyone.
