I was just wondering if anyone who perhaps may have a German background would have any ideas for my Oma's (grandma's) 85th birthday cake. She never asks for anything and I don't really know much about her life in Germany, but I thought that maybe some decorations that would depict life there? I am going to make a cupcake cake because I am traveling 6 hours and decorating it there. It's in a park and I know that it would be so much easier to serve. Any ideas would be appreciated! Thanks in advance ![]()

I just made a birthday cake for a woman who turned 90 who is very much into her swedish heritage. I just made a simple sheet cake decorated like the swedish flag (in my photos). The german flag is very simple I believe also. It probably wouldn't be that hard to make it out of a cupcake cake. Just an idea.
shame you have to do cupcakes...there are so many German cakes, chief among the Black Forest Cake that is sooooo good. (i've seen it adapted to a sheet cake).
the flag is easy, just 3 bars of color (google it)
do you know where in Germany she is from (the regions are very distinct in culture)? for example if she came from south germany, near Munich, could do little swans...Newschanstien: "mad" Ludwig's castle (the one we all think of) or could do little beer steins...the Hoffbrau House -- THE beirgraten (beer garden!)
up the rhine a ways and you go do little Lorelei's...the German mermaid.
and the list goes on
