Hi All,

Just wanted to share my first wedding cake. I wish I had taken the picture. My DH apparently didn't know which side was the front. This is from the back. The cake is by no stretch of the imagination perfect, but the bride was happy. And everyone raved about how good it tasted.

There were several hang-ups along the way . . . I dropped a layer of the bottom layer in the sink (in a mixing bowl full of water!) somehow and a few other mishaps before leaving the house. I arrived on site a little over an hour before the wedding to stack it, put the frosting balls around the top two layers and put the flowers on, so it could be refridgerated until mid reception. When I got there the caterer said could I assemble it once dinner was being served, after the wedding. In more words, I said if I had to. After the wedding, as everyone was being seated in the dining area, I talked to the caterer again and she thought I could do it in 30-45 more minutes. By the time I was putting the cake together I was VERY rushed. Exactly what I did not want to happen. AH! Well got it done and out on time. All I could see was what was wrong. But everyone else kept saying how beautiful, etc. I guess I'm just posting this to share. I'm always so impressed with the cakes I see here.

Thanks for looking.
LL

Very pretty!! icon_biggrin.gif Just to bad it couldn't have been a better overall experience for you. BTW - how would the caterer know how long it would take you to set up your cake???? icon_confused.gif Agh!!

Very pretty. I agree "how can a caterer know how long it will take you?".
A caterer at one of the weddings I set-up yesterday, told me the flowers were in the cooler that WE needed to place on the cakes. EXCUSE ME? The MOB said her sister wanted the cakes there early so she could put the flowers on. Didn't charge her for flower arranging so next week, I'll have to talk with her about paying for that service.

Told her at consult that We could put the flowers on but MOB insisted that sister would do it. Probably won't get that charge--it even states on her contract "Flowers--Sister will do".

Wow your cake is gorgeous!! and I'm with the others on that: How can the caterer knows about how long it take YOU to arrange YOUR cake!!!

You did a great job!!

and Mac: you should get paid for that. It was written in the contract that the sister was going to do it, so... just fair you should get paid for something you did!!! hope it goes well!!

Turns out, my DH didn't take pictures of the wrong side . . . he was taking pictures of the side everyone else was appparently. After talking about it, it seems that someone turned my cake!!!! icon_mad.gif Also the woman cutting it had apparently never cut or eaten a cake before. The pieces were a mess, not because of the cake holding together because she wasn't cutting straight, wiping off the knife or giving people a whole piece. Just venting.

Thank you for all your kind comments.

The cake is very pretty. I like the angled squares.

You can't be blamed for how the cake cutting went. We can tell and tell people how to cut it, but some aren't going to listen.
