Please help, a bride is looking for a cake similar to one on this site which appears to be draped in fabric. I know it is made of fondant. I usually use mmf and have never used this technique. Any advice or instructions would be so helpful. I am fairly new to this (at least new to doing it for other people and for profit). Just discovered this site this weekend and I love it! Any help would be appreciated....Thanks!

I don't know how to do it either. But that is one of my goals to learn this summer. I'm anxious to see some replies here icon_smile.gif

I have been searching all over and reading directions for this, I still have not done it, but I can tell you what makes the most sense to me in my research.

Make cone shapes out of fondant to the size you want it to flow out at the bottom, put them pretty close together but not quite touching. Then lay your fondant over them and use a dowel rod to press the fondant in between the cones to give it that flowing look.

Hi steffla

There is a clear candy/fondant mold that you can get to make fondant drapes. I've used my mold and the fondant drapes look absolutely beautiful. You can put luster dust on them to give them a beautiful shine. I don't have a cake posted with the drapes but I love to use them or practice with them.

By the way, my birthday is Dec 09 too!! icon_biggrin.gif

Omg I cant believe the response on this site its incredible! I love it here and I am addicted after only 2 days!

Okay, a few things, Samsgranny thanks for the bump but could you also explain what that means LOL, I have no idea!

TamiAZ thanks so much for the link I probably would never have found that! My only other question is can you attach them to fondant because this whole thread is about putting them on bc.

AgentCakeBaker Thanks so much for the advice I would love to know where I can buy this mold. By the way I am so sorry but my birthday is September 12, I dont know why it says Dec 09. I checked my profile but it is right in there! Sorry though!!! icon_redface.gif

Aligotmatt I appreciate that description and actually understand it. I am definitely going to try it!!!!

Darn, I thought we share the same birthday! Oh well glad I could help anyway.

I can't remember where I got mine from b/c I've had them for a while. It was either ebay or sugarcraft.com. There are plenty of online cake deocorating stores that probably sells them.

Hi Stefla, a bump is where you reply to a post and it brings it to the top of the page...hence a "bump". This brings it to everyone's attention once more. I noticed you sent your post pretty late last night so people may not have seen it to be able to respond to you. You can also give yourself a bump by opening up your post and just typing in something, like *bump* and that will bring it to everyone's attention again. People are pretty friendly here and always willing to help. Believe me, hang around long enough and you will walk away with a PhD in CAKE! Best of luck to you!

I had the same problem with my birthday. My birthday is 10-06 but it read that as JUNE 10th instead of October 6th. They are using European dating style. You need to switch the month and day on your profile.
