Need Advise Please!!! Stacked Cake Transportation?

I just got an order yesterday for a SMALL wedding cake for next week. It is only for 25 people, and they want two rounds stacked. My problem is that they want to pick it up on Fri, and drive it in the car 2 1/2 hours to the location of the wedding, which is on Sat. As long as I center dowel it, it should be o.k. for the drive, right? I'm more worried about it melting...they want rolled buttercream, which I have never worked with, I have done fondant, and it's similar to work with, right? Any advise would be greatly appreciated!!!!!! Thanks!
If it were me I would have it all doweled and ready to go and let them stack it when they get there. Sorry don't know anything about the rolled buttercream. Good luck!!!
I think if you dowel it down the middle and they are careful it will be ok. Make sure they use a non stick square / mat under it and under the box so it does not shift around.
I have used rolled buttercream and I think if it is in an airconditioned car, it should be ok.
I would say that after it leaves your hands you are not reponsible for it. I like the idea of them stacking it after they get to the site.
As for rolled buttercream, I have heard that it's just a little bit harder to work with than fondant. I'm sure you will be able to work with it, especially since you have fondant experience.
Just tried the center dowel thing for the 1st time - it was fantastic! It was for the 4th of July/Anniversary cake this past week. The next day I was going to take what was left of the top tier to work (does anybody remember the Life Cereal commercial "Hey let's give it to Mikey?" - that's my co-workers!!) and I had to really pull hard to get that center dowel out! Personally (and everyone will have their own opinion) I would prefer to send the cake already stacked because I would not feel comfortable asking someone who doesn't know anything about it to stack the cakes onsite. If there is room, you might even consider doing 2 center dowels. Let us know how it turns out!
