how's about this:

9x13 cut as per smaller diagram -- the surfboard and then two "ramp" pieces.

stand ramps on edge and put together to make "wave"

lop off top of wave for flat place for surfboard.

add surfboard to top (it's on cakeboard and doweled)

add fondant surfer dude.

variation...

instead of surfboard on top -- put at bottom of wave w/ surfer dude paddling for dear life and make wave look like about to crash onto him.

"marriage -- worse the wiping out!"

If you want real simple you could do something as easy as a 9x13 base with part of it being the beach and part of it the waves crashing on the shore. you could have surf boards "stuck in the sand" standing up and have any writing look like it was written in the "wet sand" maybe even a couple of beach towels. Not sure how complicated you wanted. Just a thought hope it helps.

Doug, you always have great ideas! You gave me one not too long ago. I passed it by my sister-in-law and she loves the idea you gave.

cambo has a very neat boogie board cake in her gallery that could easliy be done as a surfboard. I'll see if I can find it for you.
