There was a recent sale at the place I buy my pans and stuff. Two of the wilton tips were numbered 74 and 78. They do not match the tips in the 2006 year book. These were on clearance for $.75 so I couldn't pass them up. The tips in the year book are leaf tips but one is a closed star tip and the other is a wide open star tip. These tips are not anywhere in the year book. Has this happened to anyone else and how often do they retire tips? Thanks for the info.

Interesting! Go to Wilton.com and see if they have a place for you to ask the question directly to Wilton's staff.

Can you take a picture of the tip openings so we can see them?

I actually have both of those tips, they came in the set of larger tips. I do not think these tips have been retired. They are still sold with deluxe decorators set. They are just considered a specialty tip to give you a little bit different design. As for other tips being retired, I don't know how often, or how they decide.

Here is a link to the #78 on wilton's site.

And here is a link to the #74

The #78 is in the new 2007 yearbook shown under Specialty Tips (not sure what yearbook you are looking at)

The #74 is not shown in the yearbook, but I looked it up in an older book and it is listed as "Star-cut Tube with Asymmetrically-cut teeth" on these, one sides of the star seems to be flat. they show using it just like any other star tip, you just get different designs out of it depending on what sided is "up"

I hope this helps

Thanks for the info. I've been busy so this is the first time I've been able to get on in a while.
