Posted in another section- but maybe this is a better place??? Anyway- if you're from the US...what dessert is your state known for???
i'm in georgia and i can't really say, maybe peach cobbler, goodness knows i love it
I'm from Utah and our dessert is Jello...mostly green Jello with shredded carrots. Also we are know for our dutch oven cooking so a dutch oven peach cobbler is always high on the list.
Well just did a search and Kentucky doesn't have a state dessert, unless one has been name since 3-31-2007 , but a lot of people here in my part of Kentucky eat....strawberry rhubarb pie, apple pie, blackberry cobbler (or dumplings). I am sure there is a lot more but that is the 1st. things that came to my mind. Well beside Moonshine & Kentucky Bourbon ![]()

actually this is a transplant brought by the original settlers of Utah after their brief stay in Illinois...
where jello reigns supreme in a many hued rainbow of jello molds of indescribable variety.
No church picnic/potluck would be complete without at least one jello mold per family.
old joke among Lutherans (of which I am one) --
Q: How do you know you're at a Lutheran potluck?
A: By the jello molds in all the proper liturgical colors -- arranged in proper liturgical order of course.
-----
the "family" mold (which now I will let mold before I'd eat it!)
2 reg or 1 large pkg. lime jello
1 8oz container small curd creamy cottage chesse.
1 small can crushed pineapple (juice use to replace equal amount of water used to make jello)
1/4 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (better yet -- black walnuts)
1 cup shredded carrots.
make jello using only 3 cups of liquid
blend in everything else
mold
serve
(and in my opinion -- GAG!)
(funny, just this past sunday, another transplant from the midwest and I were talking about this very recipe and agreeing -- gag!)
Actually, the green Jello thing is a big joke here in Utah where it is predominately Mormon (which I am one of). It used to be you couldn't go to a church function without Jello being there, but that is a fading thing. I have yet to taste green Jello with shredded carrots, but I love Jello. Bill Cosby pushed to have Jello the official snack food of Utah. Lime Jello was also the official dessert of the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics. BTW Doug, I actually have a Jello Mold. I guess we Mormons have more in common with the Lutherans then just being Christians. Lol.
my mom's first housewarming gift to me after I moved out on my own....
a tupperware jello mold w/ changeable design for the top!
Hee Hee Hee. That's funny!
Oh my goodness mabailey....I had forgot all about Red Velvet Cake & Banana Pudding ( my kids always call it puddin pie)...another biggie here is Apple Stack Cake. My MIL use to make them all the time when she was living....she once made one for a bake sale that my son's school was having (over 24 years ago) and it sole for $30.00.

Doug- That's fancy... ![]()
frstech- I was thinking along the lines of pecans- since that's our state tree??? And I've had some mioghty fine pecan pie since I've lived here!
Grannys3angels...ooohhh...I'm sure some kind of cake made with Kentucky bourbon would be gooood...like a rum cake but different!
melysa- yah- I thought the jello was funny...I guess the carrots didn't strike me as odd, as I'm originally from Illinois and we, sadly, used to eat it that way, too ![]()
Anyone else? We're missing almost 40 states!!
Sorry I can't help here. I'm in NJ but have no idea if or what our dessert is. Now I'm curious. I'll have to try to find out.
But I wanted to comment on the green jello with shredded carrots. I've never heard of that. It does sound kind of strange.
Is it good?

jesaltuve...Apple Stack Cake is, thin layers of cakes made from...flour,eggs, sugar, sorghum (molasses), nutmeg, ginger, cinnamon, there is more but can't remember right off hand. The cakes are baked thin, and will be stack from 4 layers and up (will depend on how many layers you want) between each layer is a filling made from apples that are cook down thin, any remaining apples are mashed with a masher, when this is done apple butter is then added to the apples, then this filling is spread between the cake layers. I can't remember if anything else goes into the apple filling....my SIL has her mothers recipe.

Sharon
Sharon,
You made my mouth water with that description. I love cakes that are stacked with very thin layers too, and apples and cake=perfect match. Oh, if we could get that recipe...that would be a treat. Thanks for the description too. Sounds delicious.![]()
Jesika
Jesika, I will see if my SIL will give me the recipe to share.....I may be able to get it with in the next week from her.
God Bless,
Sharon
