I need to do a birthday cake to serve 20-25 adults, and I want to make a stacked cake (2 layers for each tier). What size pans should I use?? I thought an 8" and a 6" might work, but now I'm second guessing myself! Help!

Stemps,
According to Wilton's Party Cake Guide a two layer 8 in will serve 12 and a 6in will serve 8. So, you'd have 20 -1 1/2 X 2inch pieces. In my opinion, those are small servings, so I like to figure that I'm going to get a little less out of it. A 9 inch round will serve 22. Then you could put your 6in on top and have 30pieces -again according to Wilton's guide - which would give you enough to feed 25.
Does that make sense ?icon_smile.gif Hope I didn't confuse you!!

Thanks Amy! That is helpful....the head count for this party keeps increasing, so we might be up to a 10-8-6 before it's all said and done!!

One word of advice: however you decide to calculate your slice size & count, make sure your customer knows what size pieces your calculation is based on. If the headcount increases, you can always use a 10" & 6" for a total of 40 1" x 2" slices. In which case make sure your customer knows how to cut the 10" cake. Generally speaking, if there will be a meal served, a 1x2" slice is big enough. If the only cake & ice cream will be served, the slices will need to be a bit bigger.

Good luck!
