I have never used luster dust before, but I made a royal icing tiara and want to make it sparkly. Do I just use the luster dust right out of the container or do I have to mix it with a liquid like vodka and then brush it on? Won't the liquid make the royal icing weak and break?

I would brush it on dry. I've tried painting fondant with a luster/extract mixture, and I know that the liquid makes the fondant soft, so I wouldn't want to chance that with something as delicate a a royal icing tiara. But perhaps someone with experience has more input.

I always use lemon extract with my luster dust even on RI. I let my RI dry through and then apply the luster dust mix and voila- Perfect everytime! HTH!

I mix gold and silver with luster but with the pearl or sparkle it looks great brushed on dry.
