HELP! I need to make a cake for a boy turning 13...He loves elephants and legos...and the color red....Anyone got any ideas???

i've seen legos on cakes, but have no idea how to mold legos from fondant...
could someone share with me how to make legos out of fondant?

And if you've seen any elephants around....maybe i could make a few fondant legos and sculpt an elephant with them!

thanks so much!

What about stacking cookies on the cake and frosting over them so that the cake looks like a giant Lego piece?

You could make to sides of the cake look like it is built with different colored blocks. Then you only have to do the top edge textured like a Lego. Sculpt a gumpaste elephant on top making a small stack of Legos??

Or...use real Legos to make something on top and a gumpaste sculptured elephant?

Fondant legos--see sketch

shape long rectangle and cut into varying lengths to match sizes of real legos. add projections cut from fondant using large round tip. (could determine size by seeing which tip fits over actual lego projection).

of course can scale up to even bigger.

(sorry, don't do elephants)

hee hee...i'm glad to see so many others spending so much time on this site...the sign is correct "this website is highly addictive"...i just love it!

thanks for the suggestions...the diagram is SO appreciated!!! so the entire lego is fondant, right...the base being just a thicker cut rectangle...

don't they make a mold for a shape like that...i can't imagine hand molding that...it would be so uneven....

Can someone look at the inside of a lego? Is it smooth or does it have lines and stuff inside? Matt has some really big ones, I havent seen them at walmart, I got em at a yard sale but if you found em in all the sizes you need ( have kids? friends with kids?) you could jsut shove a glob of fontant in there to mold it, couldent you? I dont know a thing about molding but in my head it would work anywya, lol.
Look in the candle section fo where ever you shop, they usually have small candles in diff shapes, maby you could find some in diff sizes of rectangles and remove the candle stuff and use as a mold. Would that be safe though even if you washed it out really well? I know I boil mine to remove all of the wax, wash really well, spray with bleach, wash again and boil again and use them as ramekins and no one in my family has ever gotten sick from it. Really you could use any shape mold and use a ruller to mark strait lines the size you want it and cut it out, couldent you? Sorry, Im babbeling, bby when I learn more and actually know wht im talking about yall wont have to deal with my early mourning coffee buzz rambeling, hehe.

> clay gun w/ a square die opening

or

> sheet of extra thick (1/2 --> 3/4 in or even an inch) cut w/ sharp knife using ruler for straight lines and then section off into smaller pieces

and

> if wanting actual size..could even take real legos and gently press into fondant to get impression of exact size and then cut as above.
