My daughter is having a birthday party this weekend (sleepover included with her cousin & one friend) and asked me to make her a cherry cake. Now, first of all I don't know how, second I won't for the party, but I offered a compromise for the night before, cherry cupcakes. I am making a half choc/half yellow sheet cake and will have some yellow batter left over that I was going to turn into cherry cupcakes. Anyone know what I could add. I looked around for cherry extract, but didn't find any. I could be looking in the wrong places. Any ideas. I really appreciate it.

Cherry Jello? Cherry Kool Aid?

Or maybe make the yellow cupcakes, take out a plug and fill with cherry pie filling. You could also bake them and make cherry icing by adding cherry jello to the buttercream. I have made strawberry icing this way and it's good. Just make sure to dissolve the jello first in whatever liquid you'll be using.

Maybe add some finely chopped up marachino cherries with a touch of juice from the jar.....that would make it pink and sweet.....and cherry! icon_smile.gif

I've made a form of Black Forrest Cake using cherry pie filling & chocolate cake, but like Cassandrascakes said-you can try the yellow cake as well. Also, try the following links, you'll find several cherry cake recipes:

One more thing, Betty Crocker makes a Cherry Chip cake that I think is pretty good.
Good Luck,
Gail
