I just got the new yearbook, and you know how there are the pans for sale in the back? well i just remembered a question i've had for a while. on the bundt pan with the tulips on the side and the xmas present pan, they have multiple colors on the cake, but no frosting. so, how did they do that? i can't imagine that they poured the colored batter in oh-so-perfectly to do that (but then again, i can). do you think they paint color on it after it's out of the oven?

so curious now!

I am not sure, but I would think that they paint the pan with color and then pour the batter in. I did that on a couple of "freaky" cakes for my husband just to give him a surprise. Keep in mind - color changes when it is cooked.

i thought about that too actually, but i'm still thinking it would get distorted. plus, you're right about the coloring, the colors in the book are so true.... icon_confused.gif hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

You got me looking on the ne to try to figure this out. According to Wilton they paint on jam after the cake is cooled. Here is the web for the directions http://www.wilton.com/recipes/recipesandprojects/spring/tulippanwhitecake.cfm

aha! jam and tinted piping gel. hmm, i'm not so sure i believe them about the gel though. does it soak into the cake like jam would? i'm 50/50 on that. b/c if it didnt soak in, it would be shiny, which wouldnt be right. i must experiment. hat1.gif
