I have been asked to make a graduation cake for a young girl at work that is graduating high school. I want to use this as an opportunity to challenge my self and do something spectauclar. I am thinking about a tier cake with the top tier been a cap. How do I do the flat square part of the cap also what size of round pan do you think would be best for the cap.
Any and all help and suggestions would be appriciated. I have looked through the gallery and there are some amazing cakes. I have tried mmf once and everybody hated it so I don't know if I should try again.
Thanks in advance
im so glad i saw this post i was asked about something for a college graduation for later this year and this sounds great.
what i did was use the wonder mold pan and ice it. then i cut a diagonal cross section for the flat top to sit on diagonally. the top flat part i melted chocolate and poured it into a 9x9 square pan that way the chocolate was a perfect square. the only other idea i used was matzo. It it the perfect size for the top and either cover or melt chocolate over it.
just my thoughts. hth.
I used the cocoa candy melts (tinted black) to make the top portion of the cap - I poured it into a square gladware container and it turned out perfect. Unfortunately, the 6" cake didn't turn out well so she got 2 books stacked.....and the top of the cap in a bag for snacking! Was a freebie and 'surprise me' so no biggie but I was disappointed.
Can't wait to see your cake!
Thank you for all your suggestions. I jsut found out that the cap and gown are white in color if I use white candy melts or white chocolate in an 8 inch pan how will I attatch it to the hat part of the back. Also if I am going to put the cap cake on a square pan does it need to be on it's own cake tray of can it sit directly on the cake secured with dowels.
Thanks alot
