My son is turning two in august and he loves courious george so i wanted to make him a courious george cake. i have seen same examples in the gallery but not what i had in mind.

i was thinking to making a monkey(george) sitting up. I dont know if it will work out and exactly how to do it. i want to be a cake maker one day but am not there yet.

so my idea was ~ i have two different sized bowls you can bake in ~ so i was thinking of baking two of each bowl and then use the large bowl for the body and the small bowl for the head. then doing a bunt cake for the legs and arms. i really dont think i need that much cake, so would it be better to do in fondant or something else?? i am very new to this stuff so i dont know what to use really.

also would i need to dowel and board each cake?? i made my first stacked cake two days ago for a memorial day picnic and i doweled and boareded each layer. dont know if i was supposed to but i seen it on cake decorateing shows so i did it. :O)

if anyone has done this and has a pic that would be a great help.

any info is greatly appreciated.

If you're very new maybe think about buying the 3d bear pan. It can be made into all kinds of things: frogs, elephants, people, etc. so I'm sure you could cut the ears off and do a monkey. It would probably be easier than carving. You can also get the mini bear pan and I know I've seen that as a monkey somewhere.

If you do decide to carve I would think that the head would need to sit on it's own board with dowels in the body to support it and maybe a spike between the 2 to hold them together.

Check this out:

I know it's only fondant, but perhaps you can do something like that? Maybe from cake, but maybe from fondant sitting on a cake? (perhaps the cake can be a tree branch?)

I made a curious george cake and I made him out of modeling chocolate.I made him sitting up and holding a birthday candle in one hand. I then made two gifts on either side and those were the cakes. I then scattered candy on the sides so that it would appear that he was at the party himself. Hope any of that helps. I don't know how to upload the picture here so if you can just look in my pictures and its there.

I made the duckie cake (my avatar) using 6 and 8 inch rounds. Maybe you could modify that to make a monkey? In the comments about the cake I said what sizes I used.

I did dowel the bottom tier and the top cake was on a cake board. I did center dowel it also.

How about making him out of Rice Krispie Treats and then putting that on the cake? I am doing an Elmo like that for my nephew's first birthday. I know there's a tutorial around here somewhere that shows how to do it.
