I just got my 1st word of mouth wedding cake order..yippeee!!! The bride wants all BC but she wants silver hearts on her cake...can I use luster dust on them after they crust? She has never had fondant so I think she is afraid of it and she didn't like the idea of RI even as a decoration. I thought about colorflow and maybe candy melts but not sure if I could use LD...any help would be great. Thanx Tammy icon_confused.gificon_confused.gif

Yes, you can use luster dust on BC, color flow or candy melts. icon_smile.gif

Thank you for the reply...do you use it dry on BC or mixed with something?

If you dust it on dry on BC, be careful and delicate so that you don't disturb the icing--using a very soft bristle brush helps. Or, you can paint it by mixing it with a clear alcohol or extract. thumbs_up.gif

Does it look any different if brushed on dry or wet? Also how much extract do you mix with the dust?

Mommacat5 - please excuse my jumping in. You asked a question I have wondered for awhile and these other two came to mind.

TIA!

Janeil

Dusting on gives a "dusted look" like putting blush on. Paint will give you more of a coat and I want to say shiner, but that's not really it. They do have distinct looks between the two of them. As for mixing, I always place a bit of dust in a little bowl and add vodka (my choice of liquid) with a medicine dropper until I get a nice smooth paint consistency. Too little liquid and it will be clumpy. Too much liquid and it will thin the dust down too much and you would have to paint several coats on. HTH icon_biggrin.gif
