I hope this is not a dumb question. Just what is the difference between vanilla and french vanilla? I know I can get french vanilla cake mix, but how do you make french vanilla buttercream? What makes it different from reg. vanilla buttercream? Thanks, Jonna
From Wikipedia:
"The term French vanilla is often used to designate preparations that actually have a strong vanilla aroma, and possibly contain vanilla grains, but originates from the French style of making ice cream custard base with vanilla beans, cream, and egg yolks."

Have you tried this yet? Does it tast any different than regular vanilla extract?
I have used the French Vanilla. I can't say I prefer that over pure vanilla though. I used it with a French Vanilla cake mix to enhance the flavor. I haven't tried it with buttercream yet. I have only used almond extract, creme bouquet or coconut in my buttercream. I don't have any clear vanilla and I haven't wanted to tint my buttercream from the color of the pure vanilla.

Dalton, is that a clear vanilla? Or does it have some color to it?
