I have only made fondant stacked cakes, and I have a wedding on the 8th. It is 3 tiers (14", 12" and 8"), all BC. So how do I stack the tiers without the board from one tier pulling up the icing from the lower tier when they cut it at the recption?
Also, can anyone recommend an airbrush system for less than $100? Or would it be "cheaply" made at that price? I am on a limited budget and don't get a lot of call for airbrushing yet, but it is something I want to work into. I checked into the system mentioned in a precious thread about one at Home Depot. Unfortunately up here they don't carry it. TIA

The only thing I've been told that works really well is coconut sprinkled on the buttercream ...... between the tier and the cardboard of the next tier. As for the airbrush system....I have NO clue! icon_confused.gif

You can use coconut or chocolate shavings between the tiers. I have heard of people cutting a piece of parchment or wax paper a little smaller than than the cake and place that between the tiers. Sorry I can't help with the airbrush, hopefully someone else will be able to.

i read on here the other day that someone bought an airbrush kit at walmart for only 65 dollars. it was for model cars but they were going to try it using edible airbrush colors. i may check that out myself.

I always lightly sprinkle the cake with confectioner's sugar. Take the same size board as the one above it and trace your circle on the bottom cake. Sprinkle the confectioner's sugar in the circle and you won't have any problems with sticking icing.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. I think I will practice this week with Luby's idea, only because I am highly allergic to coconut and can't have it in the house. I may also try the parchment paper too. I think I found an airbrush system at Michael's. it is normally $125, but I have a 40% coupon, so that puts it at $75. I hope it will work. Now all I have to do is buy the airbrush colors.
