Hey I havehad some issues with some of the coloring for fondant recenly trying to do black or chocolate brown, you have to use SO MUCH color that I noticed it starts to lose its elasticity and get crumbly and crack so I end up kneeding in more water and some crisco to moisten it up a bit and it seems nothign works itjust starts to get soggy, and it gets air pickets, I finally gave up and rolled it out and used it and it cracked and left a few small holes when I covered the cake.

Do you all color your fondant when you need those DARK colors or do you airbrush them?

Try starting with chocolate fondant and it should be easier to darken to the color you need.

I just purchased some powder clour, my instructor told me it will not comprimise the texture as much but I have not used it yet. She also told me to try candy clay for a dark brown colour.
