why do my buttercream turns into a cream color

are you using real butter? because that would do it.

It could be butter or your vanilla extract if it is not the clear kind.

It's probably butter if you are using it. You can also whiten it by adding the tiniest (I mean TINY) bit of violet color to your icing to counteract the yellow. I learned that here and it really worked! I ALMOST put too much in, but I think it looked pretty white. (see my spartan cake in my photos) I use butter in my icing and it usually is a little off white. Not a big deal to me, but I wanted really white icing for my spartan cake so I tried it. Or you could just use the all crisco icing.

beat the butter and crisco longer. the more air you incorporate into it, the whiter it will get. i find if I don't beat it until the mixture is white,the icing will be slightly off white.
