Hello All,
I need suggestions for crumb coating. I have just been putting a thin layer of b/c frosting, but it is not working for me. How do you guys do it?

Yes, it is drying. To what consistency does it need to be thinned?

About a medium consitancy. You should be able to spread it without it picking up the cake.

I don't thin my bc too thin, I think the key is to put on a thin coat let that crust, smooth and then recoat with a thick layer. You could also try an icing tip.

Do you use a crusting BC? If so, have you ever nuked it? That is my tried and true method for crumb coating. I nuke what I think I will need for about 12 seconds to thin it. The only drawback is you have to work kinda quickly so it doesn't crust on you. What I don't use, I just slap back into the main batch (provided I didn't get any crumbs in it).

msauer--Thanks for the tip. I forgot that I did something like that one year for some cupcakes and it was so fast and easy.

That's a great idea msauer, I'll have o try that. I was told to hold the spatula under hot water and then dry it off, then spread the icing. I have never tried it but my friend says it works for her.
