Does IMBC have to remain refridgerated after put on the cake?
When it is cold is that the only waay to keep the firm consistancy?
Also is there a specific brand of "good butter to use" I used land o lakes and it turned out pretty good i was wondering if theres anything better?

IMBC doesn't need to be refridgerated. it will last for 3-4 days at room temp. and yes, getting it cold is the only way to keep it firm. just like butter (which is what it is) it hardens in the fridge, and softens at room temp. it doesn't crust. i use my store brand of butter and it tastes great! i love imbc, i use the WBH recipe. to me it tastes like soft vanilla ice cream.
To store cakes yep they should be refrigerated but to serve them they must be served room temp or the IMBC will taste like chilled honey butter. (great on toast but really gross on a cake) It should be soft when served. It doesn't crust and is supposed to be soft.
As for the butter thing. Land'o'Lakes is usually good. But some, who have the means and availability like using specialty butters that are high end or imported. If you find something good then keep using it. If you can find somewhere that sells the white butter (not colored with annato) that is always a bonus. No worries about your icing being yellow. If I remember correctly there are quite a few dairies down in Norco over near Riverside. I do know of one that is in Elsinore (used to be "Jung's Dairy) you might try to see if they have any fresh butter.
I would like to find a place to purchase white butter but have been unsuccessful. Any suggestions? I live in Oklahoma. Thanks

actually they don't. if you're keeping the icing for future use, store it in the fridge and it will last about 2 weeks. but when you ice the cake it can stay at room temp for a few days, no problem. i used to think it needed to stay in the fridge, but on the thread about duff's meringue buttercream i learned that you didn't. his recipe (slightly diff than IMBC, but very close) says to store at room temp for a few days, and when i asked about that everyone on the thread agreed. you don't have to keep it in the fridge, unless you're keeping it for longer than a couple days.
