Make a new one and give him/her the rest of the cake to eat..might as well.
I know, I know... this was probably said as a joke, but all kidding aside, you really should make a call to your vet. It doesn't necessarily mean a visit and a bill, just run the happenings passed him/her to get advice.
Since no one else mentioned this side of it, I wanted to bring light to it.
Just in case anyone didn't know, chocolate is highly toxic to dogs. They cannot metablize it as we do. (But no sweets are good for them)
(OK, all of you who hate your in-laws and neighbors and anyone else, don't feed thier dog chocolate. Karma.
)
Lots of pets with sweet tooth's out there!
Lol, this has happened to me too. I have a Chihuahua who decided to eat my moms birthday cake one time, it was a chocolate fudge cake with whipped cream filling and caramel icing, yum. The dog was so small I couldn't see him on the other side of the cake eating a huge hole in the side. Not to mention that I didn't even know he could get up on the table because it was so high. Apperantly he had just learned that trick and picked that day to show me.
OMG! That is too funny!
I am sitting here laughing out loud, visualizing you sitting on one side decorating, with the dog right on the other side snacking away!
It is difficult to know when to throw out. My husband is such a germ-a-phobe I ended up taking all of the icing off of one of my cakes because a fly had lit on it. He had me imagining the people taking a bite and maggots crawling out of the icing. Yuck! But since then I've noticed flies in restaurants and I know they don't throw stuff out.
I've also had problems with my toddler son reaching up and digging into the side of cake. Do you throw out the cake if it's minimal damage? I think I did because I had no idea where his little fat hands had been.
I know I wouldn't eat a cake that was partially bit into by any animal. I've heard that dogs have the cleanest mouths but I still wouldn't trust that.
Toss it!
You need to throw that cake away!
that cake is definitely not one that you should sell or even give away!
I know, I know...I was just SO disappointed! I don't think anyone will really like the flavor strawberry starfruit with chocolate chips...but then again you never know. I was going to eat that extra cake, too, but thought I should wait in case of a disaster...
I think they would rather have strawberry starfruite w/chocolate chips than watermelon doggy slobber cake...
[quote="Dordee"]If the cake was for my in-laws I would have to try really hard to be good and not give it to them

hehehe, someone's in-laws are just as mean as mine!
My golden, Maverick, found 2 Cadbury bars, the 9 oz ones that were a gift from my DH for Valentine's Day. He ate both of them and left only a few scraps of paper behind. We thougth they were out of his reach, and we were only gone an hour. I panicked and called the vet and they told me for his size (about 80lbs)he would have to eat about 5lbs of chocolate for it to harm him- unless it was dark chocolate and that would take considerably less. You think he would have gotten a stomach ache for eating so much chocolate so quickly- I would have! Nope, now I have to keep all chocolate LOCKED up in a drawer in my china cabinet. If I take it out, he gets all excited- I guess he knows how good it tastes now! Of course I don't let him have any! Anyway, I have to keep all my cakes way out of his reach because he eyes them the same way! So far no problems with cake!
As shown in photo to your left...yes, I've had our dogs munch away at a cake I had cooling. Had a lot of cake orders that day so I was at a loss for cooling areas. I put a full sheet cake (1/2 choc & 1/2 French Vanilla) in my office for safe cooling only to find our two dalmations had muscled their way through a closed door having a field day eating my cake. Apparently the male preferred the chocolate and the female liked the vanilla...funny, I thought it would have been the other way around. Anyway, after a couple hundred dollars of vet bills (chocolate is deadly to dogs) and several trips outside they were fine but I was stressed. Needless to say, the cake was rebaked and everyone lived happily ever after...including the dogs! Everyone loves cake...even dogs!
i understand this doggy dellima(sp?). i have a bassett hound, named satchel. he is a known counter cruiser. i posted a story recently under whats youre funniest cake story, but i though with the doggy talk id mention it here as well....i was baking a practice cake(i had my first order cake that week) and my hubby accidentally let the dog in when he got home from work. apparently basset hounds go nuts for cake, especially the cakes that have just been decorated. well i was turning to put the cake in the fridge and tripped over him. the cake flew through the air-got all over the ceiling all over me all over him, all over the floor, but he seemed happy as he was eating it as i was sprawled out on the floor. i couldnt help but laugh. now he gets put in doggy lockdown(the laundry room) whenever i bake a cake. lesson learned. at least it was just a practice cake....
btw i agree if the cake as for me id just cut it off(unless i saw puddles of doggy drool on it) but for anyone else scrap it and start again.lol ![]()
LOL! I love everyone's stories. Now that we have a good, metal, swing door doggy gate, I'm going to clear off the dining room table and use that for future cake endeavors (as suggested by my mom) and leave the dog gated off in the family room/kitchen area...
Chocolate's toxic to cats, too.
Cheers, from

Oh cryssi, boy do I feel your pain! My dog ate my final cake for my last Wilton class. We hadn't had our dog that long, and he'd never taken anything off the counter before. I was at work, and the dog usually stays inside and sleeps with his "dad" during the day since my husband works nights. Yeah, well, I guess the cakes were just too irresistable, and my husband got up to cake crumbs in the hallway, down the stairs, and all over the living room, dining room and kitchen. The dog had eaten almost the entire 6 inch, and one whole side of the 10 inch layer. When he called to tell me, I thought he was kidding (he's always playing tricks). Unfortunately, nope, no joke...totally serious. I wanted to cry, and nearly did. Of course, my co-workers thought it was the funniest thing EVER! I didn't see the humor in it until a couple of days later. I had NO time to re-bake the cakes, so I stopped at Albertson's on my way home and puchased some sheet cakes to trim up and use for my project. My husband suggested I just cut off the chewed pieces of the 10 inch cake and fill it in with icing. Dumb boy! ha! I would have considered it if I wasn't taking it to work the next day! JUST KIDDING!
Sorry such a long response....just had to share my dog experience with you. I know it's funny for me now....but like I said, it took a couple of days. I think the turning point was when a co-worker asked me if I'd missed the part on my dog's profile about it being a cake lover. (We adopted him from a rescue)
Glad to hear that you're laughing about it now, and that you had a back up/disaster cake. I'll have to remember that!
I love hearing other's stories - makes me feel like I'm not the only one with weirdness at my house! ![]()
