hello ladies, I want to make an Ice Cream for my daughter who is turning 5 today (not making till this weekend). I know the set up and put together of it. My question is about the icing do I have to use the whipped cream icing. Is it possible to use buttercream. If I do you the whipped would I be able to make it pretty I figured I could use gel to make some colored butterflies to put on the cake. any ideas would be great
You can use buttercream on a ice cream cake...haven't tried the whipped icing yet so I know nothing about it.
will the buttercream get to hard being in the freezer though when I go to cut and serve
To me it doesn't get any harder than the ice cream and by the time it's cut and served the BC has thawed enough.....my family hasn't had any negative comments about it. I actually prefer it a bit hard since it's on a ice cream cake.....I will say be careful of using really dark colors for the decorating though because sometimes they have a tendency to bleed.
I MADE AND DECORATED ICE CREAM CAKES FOR 16 YEARS SO THIS IS A GOOD QUESTION FOR ME TO ANSWER. YOU CAN ACTUALLY USE BOTH. USE THE WHIPPED TO ICE THE CAKE AND BUTTERCREAM FOR THE BORDER AND THE DECORATIONS. YOU CAN USE THE BUTTERCREAM TO ICE BUT I FOUND THAT IT WAS EASIER TO COMB THE WHIPPED ICING THAN THE BUTTERCREAM. CINDYMM4 IS RIGHT ABOUT THE BC BEING THAWED ENOUGH SO DON'T WORRY ABOUT THAT. WE USE TO TELL PEOPLE THAT WHEN THEY BOUGHT THE CAKES TO PUT THEM IN FREEZER WHEN THEY GOT HOME. WHEN THEY WERE READY TO SERVE IT MAKE SURE YOU TAKE IT OUT OF FREEZER LIKE 10 MINUTES BEFORE YOU TRY TO CUT IT. IT WILL STILL BE HARD BUT IT WON'T BE SUPER HARD TO CUT. DON'T LEAVE IT OUT TOO LONG OR IT WILL BE SOUP. GOOD LUCK!
