I just got a request for a boxing glove cake. I found some wonderful ideas here and the one of the ideas I really loved was covered in fondant. I've only ever used the Wilton fondant but most people don't like the way it tastes.

Does anyone have a recipe or recommendation of what I should use?

Thanks so much in advance!

Christina

I just did my first one a couple of weeks ago, and was in the same exact boat! I think I even posted the same exact question! icon_lol.gif To sum up the responses I got, alot of people recommended Satinice and Pettinice if you want to get something that is already made. The make-at-homers recommended Toba Garrett's fondant and the MMF (marshmallow fondant - you have no idea how long it took me to figure THAT abbreviation out icon_redface.gif ) recipe off of this site. I ended up wimping out and heading to my local store and bought the Pettinice. It tasted yummy, and I was glad that I did that I did not use Wilton! icon_razz.gif Good luck on your boxing gloves!

I use SatinIce, Pettinice, Chocopan, Massa Grischuna and white rolled chocolate fondant from Sweet Impressions.

All are quite easy to work with and my favorites are the pettinice and Massa Grischuna ones.

Wilton is easy to work with and you could try flavoring it with candy oils if you are close on time with your project. The other fondant mentioned are lighter tasting and not quite as chewy as the Wilton.

I made MMF for the first time a couple of days ago, i can't tell you how easy it was! It is really inexpensive to make. Also, it is best to make by hand, hand mixers can't handle it and most stand mixers can't either (but it is not hard to make by hand) I suggest putting shortening on your spoon (wooden is best) to prevent the melted marshmallows sticking. This should be the recipe from cc:

It tastes very good!( in my opinion)

hope this helps, it really is simple, you should have no problem making a fantastic cake

MMF MMF MMF MMF MMF.....MMF!! Try it, it's so easy, a little dirty but still quite worth it. I made my first fondant cake two days ago and i am in love. I'll never spend 20$ on stupid nasty wilton fondant again. Please try it!!!

I make the MMF because of how cheap it is to make and also because I can only get Wilton fondant in my town. I do use Wilton for accents like flowers that people usually take off anyways because it is so much easier than mixing colors myself - but sometimes I do have to since not every color is available. Sorry, I tend to ramble on, my suggestion is to make MMF. I worked great for me and tastes so much better!

DecoPac has a really good fondant for very little cost. The service is great too. I like it better than MMF, not as sweet.
