So I have a last minute birthday cake (due in 2 days!!) I want it to be really great, though!! It is for a woman turning 32...but the husband wants a funny cake like over the hill or something. He said he wants it to make her laugh.
I am at a loss...didn't want to do all the traditional over the hill stuff. I am willing to carve, make figures, etc...so any and all suggestions would be helpful!!
thanks in advance!!
What interests does this woman have? When someone wants funny or unusual, I try to go for something that one wouldn't normally see from a cake. Lots of times, someone who wants "funny" will be even more excited about "personalized". I would try to get more info from hubby. (Especially since I, being a 30-ish woman, would not really appreciate an "over-the-hill" cake of any type...)
<S>
Just wanted to say that a birthday is for the birthday boy/girl... NOT for the person buying the cake. I have had to "lecture" people about what they wanted (and thought would be funny) vs. what the recipient would want.
Personally, I find an "over the hill" cake at that age to be inappropriate.
I can see doing one at 65, but other than that - I try to steer clear of them as I find them somewhat offensive.
You can make her laugh in other ways that don't have to mock the aging process. No wonder people hate birthdays! LOL!
Yes Lsawyer. I saw that cake too. That was hilarious. I bet that would be a good one for this birthday.
I thought it was funny, too, and I wouldn't be offended by it at any age. If this guy and his wife are anything like my husband and me, we appreciate sarcasam (sp?), wit and humor. Granted, this doesn't work for everyone, but run your ideas by him and see what he says. He should know what his wife's limits are.
thank you all. I spoke to him and he says that she will get a kick out of the over the hill theme. He wants a hill on top of a small sheet cake...with her peeking over the hill overlooking a graveyard!!
ok...now I just have to figure out how to make this "pretty" for her. I want it to be a little girly/womanly!!
Hmm...
I would make her shapely (very nice figure for 32!). His idea is great and in good fun, but lets not give her a complex. ![]()
Maybe on the other side of the hill, you could have a beautiful landscape...or maybe an ocean view. I'm thinking along the lines of different things she could look forward to.
If it were my sister, I would add a TON of grandchildren!
Good Luck
I dont think I would ever want a cake overlooking a grave yard for myself.......or anyone I love! sorry, but that's awful! I like the one looking forward/or not forward to alot of grandchildren, or wrinkles/gray hair.....not death!
That just seems totally weird. Maybe you can do a gravestone with his name and some type of saying about being killed after requesting a cake like this. sheesh she is way too young for an over the hill cake. even my husband thought this was a weird request
Maybe you could ask her husband to provide some old pictures of her at "FUN" times in her life.
Then you could have them made into several edible images to be placed all over the cake. Nothing would say I love you more than that. Then you can avoid the not so funny "over the hill" theme.
I kinda think his idea is funny, but I have a weird sense of humor anyhow. Maybe twist it a little and instead of her looking into the graveyard, she could be at the top of the hill climbing away from it, looking at a beach on the other side of the hill. Just a thought, IMHO.
As a 32 year old women myself, I can't understand how 32 and over the hill go together?! I personally don't get it! Although, my sister is turning 30 in July and you'd think it was the end of the world. We're having a surprise bday party for her at my house...I'll be making a pretty cake...but we are going to buy her some "gag-gifts" such as wrinkle cream, not because she needs it but because she acts like 30 is the end
Perhaps this gus is thinking along those lines?! Although, I really do not like the idea of a graveyard...nothing fun about that!! Just my thoughts. Jodie
How about the idea of having the graveyard on one side and a beautiful, fun spring flowered landscape on the other, with the hill in the middle. Then a sign in the middle with arrows pointing each way. She is looking over the hill, deciding which way to go. you could also put signs on each side, on the graveyard side " approaching the end", and on the beautiful/fun side "life is just beginning".
Please do post your cake to this forum when finished.
I'd go with the previous suggestion and make her extra curvy. She will get a kick out of that I am sure. I also think it is weird but kind of funny. Maybe this woman is having a hard time with her age. I am 33 and don't get that though. Please post the finished product.
wow!! I have never had so many responses to a question before!! Thank you all so much!! I will be approaching my 30's this year and told the husband that I would kill someone if they gave me a cake like that...but thats what he wants and she does have a good sense of humor about this stuff...so what the customer wants...the customer gets!!
I love all your ideas. I am going to make the graveyard very pretty, lots of nice flowers, etc. Love the picket fence idea mjs4492...and lepaz I love the names on the tombstone thing!! So many great ideas now I can't wait to get started!! I think I will make the hill in the middle with something beatiful on one side and the graveyard on the other...with her trying to decide which way to go!!
thank you all so much!!
You can make the graveyard pretty with maybe some pretty colored headstones with names that say something like "Hot N. Sexy" or "Boob A. Liscious"... just an idea...
I like the idea of fun names. But pay back the husbond who ordered the cake and make a old old man standing and looking at the grave?
That would really be bad..... (for the husbond)
Hmmmmm, how about a graveyard with tombstones to depict the milestones she's passed in her life, baby, toddleradolescent years, teen years ect.... her going over hill with signs pointing the way to what lies ahead waiting for her ending on the pretty side.
