How long does buttercream icing last and how do you store it? In the frig? Can it be frozen and for how long? thanks.

It depends on which buttercream you are making.

Kind of depends on the recipe. If it has any dairy in it (like a couple of tablespoons) then you can leave it out for 2-3 days. The rest should go in the fridge for 2 weeks or so. Some of the whipped types of icings with a lot of cream in it need to be refrigerated. All crisco recipes using water can last quite a long time without refrigeration. I have heard anywhere from 2 weeks to a month. I am not sure. meringue buttercreams...well I havent gotten a good consensus on that one. I think for sure any leftovers should be in fridge. I am not sure how long it is safe to leave it out. I have heard anywhere from a few hours to a couple of days.
