Hi! Stupid question- but I am doing my first stacked cake for tommorrow (it's a practice run for a big party in August) and I need to know- when do I put in the wooden dowels? Before or after I put the Fondant on? I assume before but I want to be sure - Thanks.

I would wait until after you put the fondant on, just in case.

I would do it after the fondant is applied because the dowels have to be level with the cake/same hieght as cake.good luck

Yes, you put them in last. If not, you will have the depth of the fondant for the cake above to mush down.

Then, make sure you put the next layered cake on a cake board that will sit level on the dowel rods. If there is a third level - repeat the process.

If you have never done this before, I would recomend picking up a wilton yearbook from walmart. They have some great pictures that can help you visualize what you are doing.

Good Luck.
