Hi! I've been very fascinated in the art of cake decorating and even more excited to learn about it when I stumbled upon this website. I have baked quite a number of times (just a simple butter cake and chocolate cupcakes) and but I never tried decorating them. I would like to decorate my cupcakes with different colors and designs for my nephew's birthday.
What kind of icing color should I use with buttercream icing? And what brand should I choose to buy? Wilton, Chefmaster, Baker's Preferred, or Americolor? Or are they all the same?
Hi welcome to CC! With buttercream you can pretty much use any color you want. The only tough colors are red and black. You can use any brand that is easy for you to get. I have always used Wilton but I have tried Americolor and I like it just as much. I just Wilton because it is easier to get ahold of. I hope that helps a bit and good luck with your cupcakes!
I've got mostly Wilton colors and they work fine...but I just started using Americolor and they're great. I first just ordered the super red and super black because those are the toughest colors to get and everyone recommended Americolor for them. but then after using them, I like how they're packaged better as well. They come in a nice squeeze bottle so you don't have to do the whole dipping a toothpick in thing like with Wilton's. I'm planning on ordering all kinds of colors soon to have a full stock ![]()
