What right do you have to refuse the cake when you see it?

The oil change guy who works with my husband has a step daughter who's graduating tommorow. Apparently he told my husband yesterday that his wife was going to make the cake but didn't have the time at the last minute (she used to work in a grocery store bakery) so she ordered one from the local grocery. The guy who decorates there does a pretty bad job when rushed and they have TONS of orders this weekend. I've seen this guys icing roses and they're just a ribbon of icing in a spiral, no seperate petals and my husband said the last one he saw the icing wasn't close to smooth. When she placed the order she supposedly told the bakery that if the cake looked like the last one she bought from them she wouldn't accept it but if she knows they do such a horrid job why did she order? I guess at that point I'd do something simple like make cupcakes so there was SOME kind of cake at the party instead of hoping that the cake turned out. I've never seen her work, she doesn't really have any tools from what I understand and only does it once in a blue moon. I could see telling them you weren't buying it if you had never seen their work and it was awful but if you KNOW that this guy sucks.

I can understand why they wouldn't get from me, he doesn't make much after all and they have 3 kids at home. I have two kids anyway so I'd rather not make more than one at a time and these people are strange so I don't know if I'd want to do one for them. icon_lol.gif

Are you in a small town without many places to choose from? If not, I don't know why they'd take a chance on this.

There are 2 local stores that do cakes. Even with such a small choice it just doesn't make sense to me that they'd refuse the cake and have nothing for the daughter.
