The bottom tier is 8 in. and the top tier is 6 in. We're not going far with it, maybe 10 miles. But I'd hate to have it fall during the drive. I don't really want to have to stack it upon arrival, because then I'd have to do part of the decorations there too...and I'd rather just arrive with it already together.

So - Is my top tier going to slide off of the bottom tier? Or will it be safe?

I would put dowels in it to be safe and I would refrigerate it over night it possible
I think it would be ok.

Any time you have any kind of stacked cake, you need to put dowels in the bottom layer, then place a cardboard on top of that then the next layer.

I just transported my first wedding cake this past Sat. It was 3 tier and I doweled it, the way Candyladyhelen was refering to, and it did great. I also put a dowel down the middle. The only thing that happened was a rose fell off but I fixed it and all was good. I stressed really bad because I had to transport it all by myself. I just put it in the front seat and PRAYED a lot. Good luck!
