I have to make 120 bridal dress cookies, for a bridal shower, and I needed to make a bridal bouquet for the middle of the dress. I was thinking of making the flowers out of fondant. My question is, if I make all the flowers 2 weeks in advance will that be enough time for the fondant to dry or should I add some Gum-Tex to it? I have to bag them and bring them 1 1/2 hours away, do you think that the flowers would be dry enough to pack up without ruinning them and is GumTex edible on a cookie or will people break their teeth? thanks in advance!!! any help would be appreciated!

Why not just use RI??? It dries quickly and is (I think) best suited for cookies.

I would be afraid of the petals breaking on the fondant flowers. You could do the RI flowers ahead of time and put them on the cake right before packaging.

BTW- What kind of flowers are you going to do?

I think 2 weeks would be plenty of time for the fondant flowers to dry. I'm assuming they are just something like a tiny petunia-ish flower? As long as there are no long narrow parts of the flower you'll be fine - they tend to break off easier. I personally wouldn't add gumtex as I find it leaves a bit of an off taste. I would just pack the flowers in layers with tissue.

I did 130 calla lilies out of MMF last weekend for cupcakes this weekend and they were very dry by the time I needed them.

Good Luck!

I was going to make very small little flowers with a dot of RI in the middle of the flower. I guess something like a babies breath type of flower. what type of flower can you make with RI?

depending on what tips you have you can make just about any kind of flower you want with royal icing. It dries like candy and tastes pretty decent. You can add different flavors to it, and coloring it is easy. I love royal icing for cookies it makes a shiny pretty picture when it dries

Thank you all for the replies! I guess I'll just use fondant alone and let them dry. I wish I knew How to make RI flowers it would probably be alot easier.

I just made a couple of cookies this past week with RI flowers. They make "drop flower" tips that make rather small flowers and would probably work just fine for you. I got mine at WalMart...it came with three tips (one petal, one drop flower, one leaf). I'm pretty sure it would work, and they dry pretty fast. HTH. Jodie

Well, any star tip can make small Flowers... drop flowers are almost like stars, you just twist your wrist slowly to make a petal ... and usually they're closed stars. You make the royal icing and then you tint it or leave it white put it in a pastry bag and then drop the flowers from the tip onto a piece of something like wax or parchment paper. Let them dry then you can apply them to your cookies with a small drop of RI like glue.

I just made these fondant flowers for my cookies. I only let them dry overnight and they were fine. Bagged them the next morning.

I agree with Fairytale, the fondant dries quickly in small flowers. btw.. great cookies Fairytale.... I prefer fondant for cookies, especially if you are using the molds.. they are fast and easy, and less mess than RI..
