I've noticed all of these different colored cake cardboards in the gallery pictures and I wonder what you are using to do that? Can you order colored boards? What do you use? I don't like plain aluminum foil.

I got all my ideas from others here: use contact paper, all different colors. Scrapbooking paper covered with clear contact paper. When I'm doing a more classy cakee, I use paper without any design, and clear contact paper with a lace kind-of design in them.

I use wrapping paper, tissue paper(doubled). Then cover it in clear contact paper, to keep it from getting sweety.

I'm guessing everyone is out for the holiday weekend because its real quite here.

Anyway to answer your question many people use gift wrap to cover their boards then use clear contact paper to cover that. This is a good way because then you can match your gift wrap to the occasion. You do need the clear contact (found at walmart or micheals) so that the ink from the gift wrap wont get on your cake and so the gift wrap wont get greasy from the cake.

When I did the boobie cake it was really tacky (in a good way) Dark purple and red so I let the kids color the cardboard with red and purple crayons. I figured if all 4 of my kids have eaten crayon at one time or anouther, it couldent be all THAT dangerous. icon_biggrin.gif Anyway, everyone loved the board almoast as much as they did the cake.

I use a really thick gift wrap typre of paper that I bought at a Japanese discount store here in town. Looks kind of like a multi-color tie dye type of thing, but is super cool looking. Or I will use colored stuff that goes on Easter Baskets (sorry, I can't for the life of me remember the name of it!)......cellophane!!!

My new favorite thing is scrap book paper then covered with contact paper. There are so many neat papers now that will fit any occasion. Also then you only have to buy one sheet instead of a whole roll of wrapping paper. I just did a John Deere Tractor cake and I bought "hay" paper for the board. It was so cute!
