I'm curious, I saw in another forum prices for cakes~ do these prices encumpass all materials to decorate the cake (toppers and themed items) ??? If not~ where do you start ADDING ON to the "base" price?

For example I'm making a golf course cake for my boss's husband. I told her I'd do it as a gift to him (since I'm their nanny) and she told me that she could/should reimburse me for the materials.... but for an actual customer I'm not sure what all to charge for.....

With my boss~ I don't want them to pay for the cake and icing but the add-ons were expensive! I made a half sheet cake (first time ever icon_smile.gif and the pan to make the cake was 25$ (granted I'll use it again so no worries on that) but the golf accoutraments added up to over 18$!

Ahhhhh I'm so confused right now and operating on 3 hours of sleep! haha

Advice on what to charge them and others in the future would be appreciated icon_smile.gif))

Oh and I need to say~ OMG I LOOOVE THIS SITE!

We were taught in cake class to multiply costs of materials x3. That is any easy way, especially at first.

I'm not sure what you mean by "accoutrements" that cost $18 icon_eek.gif for a half sheet, but for extra decorations that you have to buy, I pass that cost right on to the customer. So I would charge a base price for the half sheet, extra for the sports ball (although not the pan because that's part of having an inventory and being in business) and every penny of the $18 for decorations.

well, Kelleym the 18$ of decorations on the top of the cake cover the golf/tee candles, "4-0" candles, golf cart & bag kit, and another kit including a male golfer and clubs along with some balls n holes.

I don't think I can charge her for them! haha I think I need to make up a price list though for future so that there's no confusion (or possibility for lack of communication!) since I'm not good with talking about money (unless you're a big company- then I'll talk about what you owe me all day! haha)

Thank you both for your suggestions! I'm going to use that info on my next cake!

Hopefully I'll get pics posted of the golf course tonight icon_smile.gif It turned out better than I could have ever hoped.... LOVE the grass/hair tip I got to use (#233)! It's sooooo FUN!!!!
