Wow! I've been checking out all the purse cakes, flower pot cakes, topsy-turvy cakes, and other "carved" cakes. So, I have to ask:

How'd y'all do that? Are you stacking same-sized cakes and cutting freehand with a serrated knife or is there some type of giant cutter you're using?

Do you have to be an artist/sculptor to really do this well? I hope it's not too complicated, because I really, really want to try to do something like this.

Thanks a bunch for your help!
Sisterly,

any carved cake I've done, I just stack a bunch of cakes together with buttercream in between and start cutting! I'm by no means an artist, but I'm sure it would help if I were! haha

jdogga - I looked at your photos - you are def an artist! Do you use fondant or Satin Ice on most of your cakes? I just cannot get anyone that cares for the taste of fondant.

Alphagirl - I agree the cakes that are on this site are amazing! Good Luck on yours!
