When Wilton Says 2-Layer, What Does That Mean?

Is a 2 layer cake two 1 layer cakes on top of each other or is it one layer torted??

I think it means two ~2" layers, however you get them. Cake 3-4" tall.

If you are baking an 8 inch round cake that is 2 layer, you will make 2 cakes that are 8 inches. Then, you can torte them, or just leave them whole and put icing in the middle. So you get a total of 4 inch high cake. A tier is say a wedding cake that has a 6inch, 2 layer and then pillars and a 10 inch, 2 layer cake. Well, that was as clear as mud!!!!!!!
