I have a request for a cake that combines Superman and Lightning McQueen from Cars. They want superman holding ightning up over his head. I was thinking the 3D car pan, but not sure how to get the cake underneath to look like Superman holding him up! Would this even work?

maybe....

well we start w/ a sheet and use a 1/2 sports ball or the soccer ball (depending upon final size needed) to make Supermans head.

Can carve cake for body. body could be top layer of two layer sheet with bottom layer functioning as background and part of cape. OR body is cake and just on board decorated for background and part of cape.

for arm..see photo of the cake stand -- similar arrangement using either a cut down stand or the hollow invisible pillars for the arm. Sections of cake carved and BC glued on -- then I'd wrap in fondant for extra staying power.

macqueen sits atop plate on top of pillar. small plate centered under a rectangular cake board.

would look best if base of pillar was disguised by cake -- which is reason I suggest two layers for base w/ top being carved body and bottom both hiding the support and acting as background.

by the way... forgot to label something

that section behind his head is supposed to be his cape fluttering in the wind (shaped gumpaste or fondant)

ok...got to thinking some more.

so...what if you did Superman like several have done spiderman as a 3-D bust ....instructions here>>> http://frostingfun.blogspot.com/

cc cake by LISA here>> http://cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=coppermine&file=displayimage&meta=search&search=spiderman&cat=0&pos=16&search=spiderman

and then did the arm like in my post up above?

could then get mcqueen looking Superman straight in the eye. (maybe an expression on Superman's face like ..hmmm you've got some explaining to do and a sheepish grin on mcqueen.

disguise circular base as a patch of grass or a pile of brick, (an oil spill??)

I'm in morning and a bit silly....

so back to the disguise the base for option #2....

if do the oil spill have the oil running down Superman's arm....even more reason for him to look a bit displeased!
