All Canadian Cake Decorators!!!!red Ensign?!

For my Grandfather's 80th birthday he wants a cake with the Red ensign on it, i promised my whole family that i would make such a cake... Besides using some cake friendly printer paper/ink what should i use? i was thinking either fbct or some color flow but its kinda intracate... help me please?! ![]()
Hello; I am Canadian, & I am not sure which insignia you are referring to; though some do have red in them; most of the ones referred to as 'Insignia of Canada' are also gold .
In any case if your grandfather wants a red insignia, then that is what he should have! If the pattern is too complicated, then the simpliest solution would be an edible image. Many suppliers now offer this service.
I think FBCT is a good option, but is not always easy to do for detailed images.
Personnaly, I find that making complicated images is easier in chocolate (at least for me); especially if you need to make red. Whereas red is always difficult to make in icing; & even edible images may not come out quite red (depending on the printer) I would just use Merckens red candy melts and make the image completely out of chocolate.
The finished product is true to color ... & will be like a placque on top of the cake; which you will be able to remove before slicing the cake and give to your grandfather (like a medal). I am attaching a sample of an intricate pattern I made for someone who loves Harry Potter, but wanted something 'different' on the cake. Hope this helps you.
