Hi everyone, I made the MMF last weekend and put it on a cake I made from scratch and used a buttercream icing crusting under it.

The problem is I was going to make a cake for a party with the fondant on it and my DH thinks that people are not going to like it because it's got a weird taste and texture. Questions are:

Do I explain to the guests that its fondant and has a different taste/texture than they are used to before they eat it?

Is there something I could add to the receipe (found here on cc) to make it more favorful?

Is there something I could do get the texture less chewy? Maybe roll it paper thin, but I'm worried that you will be able to see through it and that ruins the whole point of getting a smooth white surface I guess...

any ideas?

I have found with MMF it's about 50/50 for and against it! I personally like it and those that don't can peel it off. I don't think you need to explain to the guests. If they like it they will eat it. If they don't they won't. I'm not sure you can change the texture. You can try adding different flavorings, but not sure what cake you are going to have. Sorry, guess I'm not much help. Good luck. Here's a bump though, maybe someone else can help!

Thanks petitesweet, I actually agree with you about peeling it off but they are a picky bunch so I'm trying my best to get it right.

Thanks again ! icon_smile.gif

Alaska Girl,

You can certainly put an extract in it to change the flavor a little....

On the whole fondant issue, you're not going to make everyone happy. Don't worry about it and they can peel it off. I served a large fondant covered cake at a child's birthday party that was also attended by tons of parents (dora cake). Half the people ate it and half the people left part or all of the fondant on the plate. They'll figure it out, if someone actually says to your face that it's gross. (first of all they're very rude) just say, I'm sorry you don't like it, it's very popular right now, everyone is using it, or something like that.
