I've learned a lot from The Whimsical Bakehouse by Kaye and Liv Hansen. The Cake Bible by Rose Levy Beranbaum is also a great resource if you like to bake from scratch.

I second the Cake Bible...excellent resource!! Collette Peters' "Cakes to Dream On" is great for fondant and gumpaste decor. For cookies and mini cakes "Pretty Party Cakes" by Peggy Porschen is beautiful.

Toba Garrett's "The Well Decorated Cake" book is very good, as is, "The Cake Bible". I have several others but these are my favorites of them all, so far. Good luck choosing but you will probably end up with a library in your kitchen like I have! icon_lol.gif

The new Confetti Cake book is great too, along with Peggy Porschen's "Pretty Party Cakes" and Mich Turner's "Spectacuar Cakes."

For those who like a different sort of look, Margaret Braun and Kerry Vincent have great books out there too.

Since we're on the topic of books, does anyone know a good book on fondant and gumpsate flowers?...not too old.

I have Wilton books, but I also started buying old & new issues of Mailbox News. They are mainy pictures of cakes sent in by readers, with some recipes and FYI's. It's pretty interesting to read the older issues and see the progression of decorating, FYI's and recipes. There are a lot of good ideas-for beginners up to the pros. It's kind of refreshing for us beginners to see creations that are actually acheivable.

My brother's girlfriend just gave me Debbie Brown's "Enchanted Cakes" today! icon_lol.gif It has tons of fondant work in it. No flowers that I saw glancing at it but lots of carved cakes with elabrate figures.
