I was wondering if anyone knew how many slices the Wilton star shaped pan produces? (its 12 inches) I was planning on making it three layers as well.

Wow, at 3 layers, that's a lot of cake. According to wilton's wedding cutting guide, it's almost 60 servings for a 2 layer 12 in cake. Of course, you'd probably cut larger pieces for a family party than for a wedding. But at 3 layers, you might be able to feed 40-45.

So it would serve the same as a 12 inch cake? (since its the points that are 12 inches, its not 12 inches all the way around like a round cake)

I was thinking it would server about 35...

I checked the pan capacity, and it holds around 7-8 cups. That is the same quantity of batter for making two 12in layers according to the cake bible. If you make 3 layers, either it serves the same number of people a huge slice of cake, or you could get more servings, whichever you want.
