I did this cake for my parents who recently moved to the beach. We are going for a visit tomorrow and staying a few days. I thought I'd make them a cake and take it to them. It's a white cake mix with white choc pudding mixed into it and strawberry pres in between the layers. There's 4 layers, and I colored 2 of them blue and stacked them blue, white, blue, white. The brim of the hat is mmf painted, and the blue ribbon and stars are mmf. The rest is bc. The whole hat was first covered in cbc. Since I am new to cake decorating and have never had any classes, I would really like some honest opinions. This was my first time using the pres. on a cake (challenging icon_confused.gif ) and my first time trying the pin prick method for the words. Thanks for looking.

WOW! That's a great job!! I don't want to scare you, but the layers may slide in the car if the filling is very thick. You might want to add a few dowels (3?) to keep this from happening. You could easily cover the holes with some "extra" fireworks.

Your cake is beautiful! icon_smile.gif

For someone who's new, that's an awesome cake!!! And won't they be surprised when they cut the cake and see all the colors.

That's gorgeous!!!!! I wish I could do so well....I especially like the simplicity of the fireworks, yet they're bold and exciting at the same time. I'd love to see the inside after it's cut, too - my last attempt at blue was a disaster! PAT

icon_redface.gif Thanks to everyone for your kind words!! BTW, I put about 5 bamboo skewers through the entire cake in and around the center to hold the layers in place for the trip. It's a 2 hr. trip and I was a little worried about that. But thanks again for the tip. I'll be sure to take some pics after it is cut and post them. Thanks again everyone!!
