Hello all, I have been making and decorating cakes for a while. I still consider myself a newbie but I really enjoy it. I have been asked to make and decorate some flip-flop cookies for a bridal shower. They want plain cookies shaped and decorated to look like flip flops. HELP!! These are my questions.

1. Suggestions on a good recipe.

2. Can I use regular royal icing to decorate? Outline and flood in? etc.

3. Where in the world can I find a flip-flop cookie cutter. I thought I might could use a foot and smooth the toes out, but I can't even find a foot cutter. Is there an easy way to make a cutter? What about using a patter and cutting around it with a knife?

Any suggestions and help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi BoothsBest,
Got some quick answers for ya!!
1. Most CCer's seem to like two recipes posted in the Recipe area.
The NFSC ( No Fail Sugar Cookie) or Penny's Sugar cookie
2. Yes, regular royal icing to outline and flood is what I use. Alot of people use MMF (marshmallow fondant) to cover cookies and prefer it over royal.
3. Go to " Off The Beaten Path" online. They have a flipflop cutter for .99 cents!!

I love Penny's Recipe for cookies.. the texture and flavor are phenominal.. you can find it here:

I use royal icing to decorate my cookies.. I thin it out to flood and use it as is to write and detail. I use Antonia's reciep and technique.. it works everytime.

You can make a pattern if you want, but look on-line.. there are so many places to find cutters. Good luck!!! Cookies are so much fun!

I recently did flip flops- check my photos...I did not have time to order a cutter- so I bought a flimsy heart shaped one and bent it into the shape I needed. icon_smile.gif

Hi there!
I made my flip flops (the ones seen next to my screen name here) with
fondant! I have a flip flop cutter that I bought from Cooper Gifts. I also
use the NFSC recipe. My daughter is leaving with her volleyball team for
Florida in two weeks, and I'm going to send some "flip flops" with them!
Please post pics of your flip flops...we'd love to see them! Good Luck!

Joanne

I bought a foot cutter at my local cake supply shop. It is just the outline--I also reshaped the same cutter for baby booties. A cheap cutter is easy to bend.

I use MMF on a hot cookie and then royal to do the details--I won't lie--it takes time, but makes a pretty cookie.

Goodluck!
