I'm sure this has been asked/answered before, but I can't seem to find it in past topics.
I have 7 weeks until baby #2 arrives and trying to plan ahead, just in case!

*Can I freeze plain cupcakes for about 6 weeks?
*Can I freeze Devils Food cake, crumbled up and mixed with Buttercream Dream for about 4 weeks? Just like cakeballs but I am planning to make that my 'meat patty' for Father's Day hamburger cupcakes.

THANKS!

The longest I've gone is 2 months. When I unfroze the cake ball scraps they were even better than fresh baked. They were so moist. I think you just have to make sure and wrap really well so they don't pick up any outside odors or flavor. I haven't tried with the buttercream dream, just reg. bc. I am sure someone else here can help you with that.

Great, that's what I thought but I wanted some other more professional opinions!

I have frozen cake balls before, I make the balls, mark the ziplock bag with the date and flavor. I have frozen them up to 2 months. I dip them as I place orders.

I'd also like to know about freezing cupcakes. I have never frozen cupcakes before. I need cupcakes for next weekend and if I can freeze them that will save me some time. How do I do this?

tyty, I have frozen cupcakes a week ahead of time.
I have these Lock & Lock storage containers, thanks to my mom's obsession with QVC! They are airtight and the cupcakes do fine for a week. I let them cool slightly, put them into the container and into the freezer.
I'm sure you could use freezer ziplock bags and double bag them just to be safe. I would let them cool completely if you are using the bags instead of some type of tupperware b/c they might stick together.

Thanks so much, I could make all my cupcakes this weekend, make my frosting during the week, and put them together next weekend. That will really save me some time.

the last batch of cake balls I made. I froze dipped ones and let them come to room temp with the wrapping still on them. very good slightly chilled and moist. havent froze cupcakes yet. when I freeze my cakes, I brush with a syrup and wrap well.

If you freeze them in their container first then transfer to your zip lock bag or vacu-seal them they hold up really well and don't stick together. You have to take them out of bag to unfreeze or they will stick together when you are ready to use them.
