Can anyone give advice on covering a whimsey cake with fondant?? The tops of the tiers are wider tham the bottom so I had a TON of fondant to work on smoothing out. Cut alot away and was impossible to smooth those seams completely away. Being a "perfectionist" I was exasperated!! Is there an easier way? Please advise! Thanks

i know it probably won't help, but i couldnt see any folds in your fondant at all. icon_smile.gif

not sure on the best way to do this, but maybe to hide any folds you could cover them with stripes of fondant like the top layer? oorrrrrr make it part of the 'wacky' design?

GREAT job! It looks like you have done a hundred. Love it. I have never been brave enough to try fondant, but had to tell you your cake is beautiful.

Okay, maybe I'm just paranoid but there is a visible seam right above the purple circle on the right upper side in the orange tier. Stuff like that drives me nuts. I want it completely smooth! I know I've lost it when it comes to cake decorating! It's a disease!!

did you have the cake elevated on a stand when you were covering it? a lot of people say that having a lot of excess fondant and a high up cake makes the stretching much easier

No, I had it on my kitchen table! Was REALLY nervous about elevating and stretching the fondant since this was only my second time working with the stuff. Not knowing any better, I used Wilton's. Next time I will try elevating and just see what happens. This was done with cake dummies so that I could enter a local decorating contest.
