I need the color silver for a cake immediately. I've looked all around and can't find it. I even thought maybe gray would work, but can't find that either. Do they even make this?

I thought of ordering it online, but I need it ASAP! Any suggestions of where to order and how long it takes to ship?

I've just started using a great silver cake spray. All the lustre dusts I have ever used have been hopeless, they make a mucky grey colour. This spray is prettygood and looks really cool when sprayed over coloured fondant as well as white. It's made by PME in the UK and is called:
PME Edible Pearl/Silver Lustre Spray
It costs £5.99 a can (double it for US dollars)

Luster dust is probably what you're looking for. You can't mix it with the icing, it needs painted on after. You can order it or get it at a cake supply shop. DOn't buy Wilton shimmer dust, it's not the same.

Luster dust can be brushed on dry or made into a paint by adding alcohol (everclear or vodka is best).

This will be done on a buttercream cake.

Does luster dust taste good?

Luster dust doesn't really have a taste, not that i've ever noticed.

As to your grey icing question. I have never seen a gray gel color. I just use a little bit of black in the white icing until it turns the shade of gray I want.

HTH

Again I really recommend the spray - particularly for buttercream as I imagine painting the lustre dust on would be harder than on fondant. The cake I've just posted has thesilver spray on it. Called 'crown jewels' in my photos.

What brand is the spray? I don't recall every seeing a silver spray before over here. Do you buy it locally or online emma?

Thanks
