I have been using Wilton tips since I started. I am not happy with them as they rust, or more importantly lose their shape. My stars are quite perfect starts anymore, my circles are perfectly round, and the base of the tips bend so easily too. I have come across PME tips and Bekenal tips, but they are really expensive. What tips to you use, and does anyone have any experience with PME or Bekenal.

Thanks!

I have used

1)Wilton - Older ones which I inherited are still in great condition, the more recent ones I have aquired I have to be more careful with b/c of they seem to aquire more dents and dings. As for the rust I don't have a problem with that, but I never let them soak in anything for more than an hour. When I clean up I put them in a bowl with dishsoap and microwave them to clean them, then rinse and set on a rack with the large part of the tip down so that water doesn't sit on them.

2)Bakery Crafts (metal) - Only durability problem I had was with the star tips. As for cleaning, they seemed to rust even when water didnt' sit on them

3)Bakery Crafts (plastic) - Major problems with the round tips not working, the plastic wasn't molded right 80% of the time so you didn't have a nice string.

4)Ateco - haven't had any problems so far, the ones I have also inherited ones i use though. So I don't know if they are using different materials now.

I also wanted to check, do you have the tip saver? I have found that works fairly well to save a lot of my wilton tips when they get a little bump and bruised.

I have both PME and Ateco tips. PME tips are stainless steel, and better for working with royal icing.

No, I don't have a tip saver. Would that work on a star tip? I get frustrated because I have multiples of some tips (for instance the star) so I can use different colors without having to clean the tip out. Well, on one part of the cake the stars are great (tip not bent), but then on another part (different color, different star tip) they aren't because the tip is slightly bent. I just wonder if it's worth investing the money in pme tips. Maybe so.
Yes, I do soak my tips in water - for more than an hour icon_redface.gif Guess I need to stop that.

I only use Wilton. The only problem that I have had so far is with one of the leaf tips. It's hard to get a real point to your leaves at the end and they are known to get pinched sometimes.

I like Ateco. I just ordered a new star tip and it sees really tough. I wonder if they have started using something new??

You can straighted out some old tips with a ball point pen.
