I made a practice cake for a class I took last night. I also needed a cake as a welcome for a new family that started at my work. So, I decided to combine the two....the only thing is, I let my 3 year old dd decide what flavor cake and filling to make (before I decided to use it for work).
It's a strawberry cake with milk choc ganache filling. We had a small 6" that my other dd decorated and filled the same and we tasted it tonight. Well, it's not terriable - but it's not the best tasting cake I've ever made.
I've been having lots of people at work start to ask me to make them cakes - if I serve something that looks OK, but doesn't taste perfect...will that ruin it for me? I keep thinking that I should stop at the store to pick up another sweet treat to hand out and then explain to everyone the situation. But, will that make the people I made it for feel cheated?
I agree with luvbaking...don't go out and buy "replacement" baked goods. That'll probably hurt more than it does good. Just explain to them why the flavors were what they were, and I'm sure they'll understand. And you never know, their tastes are completely different from yours, and they may have loved it. Sometimes we are our own worst enemies, and if we don't let on something is wrong, others will never know ![]()
