I have a question about cakes coved in fondant. I am making a wedding cake for a co-worker. It will be a backyard wedding. The bride had seen cakes done in fondant, but didn't know what it was. Just liked the look. Anyway, I was watching a show on cakes at Disney World where they took the cake, after the bride and groom cut it, and removed the fondant. The buttercream stayed on well and still looked relatively nice. I don't think many of the guests will know what fondant is either. I don't want people thinking " what an awful cake, this is weird chewey frosting!". Should I have it removed before they serve it? What are some opinions? Thanks, Jonna

Some take the fondant off before slicing the cake. Others slice the cake and eat the fondant that is on it. Or you can always slice the cake and leave the fondant on and let the person who's eating the cake decide whether to take it off or not. Personally I love the Marshmellow Fondant (MMF). It really doesn't taste bad at all. Wilton doesn't taste too good and I'm not sure about the others.
